A single seed can start a garden
A single drop can start a sea.
A single word can start a friendship
That joins together you and me.
Friendships stretch beyond the years
As they build and make who we are.
A man without friends is a man without a future;
Your friends will carry you far.
So how do we form these bonds of joy,
these ropes of cheer and trust.
Many chance the random way,
But I think that effort’s a must.
As a friendship is between a you and a me,
There are many things a me must do.
Me must be willing and wanting and
perhaps even hunting, but definitely wary too.
For as sad as it is, there are some friends
That would pose in the camera’s flash.
They would say the right things, laugh
The right way, though all the while looking to dash.
True friends are like gems, valuable and hard to find.
They never falter, as a ruby never loses its shine.
Many desire, but few receive,
the peace a true friend brings inside.
This is the calm we feel when we smile,
When we laugh and enjoy the moments we’ve made.
The times spent together under starry skies,
And wishing that the moon forever stayed.
It is in these moments that our friendships are defined,
In bonfires, hanging out, gossip and chatter
The games, the toys, the girls and the boys,
and the fights that never truly matter.
If I were to give away a lesson book to life
Full to the brink with morals and advice.
The opening page would be signed by my friends,
As they molded my random into precise.
You see, friends are your umbrellas when
The storms have you sopping
And they are your superheroes when
Your city is all but dropping.
Friends are your diary, lock box, or vault
Protecting the confided secrets and fears.
They are your mobile and constant support group,
Specializing in wiping away tears.
Comedians by day and counselors by night
We cannot help but wonder why they stay
Yet, when the day breaks a new and
The sunlight is true, you know that I’ll never go away.
